Jean Barban Fine Artist

Biography
M
issouri native Jean Barban has been active in fine arts for more than 20 years.  She began her career in graphic design, eventually trading in the fast paced world of the service bureau for a more soul enriching expression in watercolor, oil and pastel.  Also having an Elementary Teaching background, Jean found it natural to teach art classes and workshops through local community colleges, recreational facilities, art clubs and her residential studio.

Jean is currently a member of the Oil Painters of America, AIS (American Impressionists Society, Inc.) and the Park Hill Art Club.  She has also been a past member of the Arts Student League of Denver, the Paletteers Art Club for 10 years, having served as both vice president and president in 2004 and 2005 respectively, the Arts Alliance of Littleton (AAL), the Broomfield Art Guild, the Arvada Artists Guild, the Bloomington/Normal, Illinois Art Guild, the Columbus Area Artists and the Wilmington, N.C. Art Guild. She served as vice president of the Sampson County Art Council.

With a keen interest in local juried shows, Barban has won numerous awards including Colorado's "Art from the Heart" Best of Show and has had work juried into the 2008 Oil Painters of America Regional Show, two Northern Colorado Artists' Association National Art Exhibition and Sale (2004 and 2009), the 2006, 2007 Mountainside Artists' Guild Miniature Show, and the 2006 St. Louis Artists' Guild—Trains: Past, Present, and Future.  Her work can be seen at the Majestic Gallery in Idaho Springs, CO. Barban has expanded her creative interests to include photography and learning the cello.  She resides in colorful Colorado with her very supportive husband, Joe and in 2009, she celebrated her 10-year anniversary of a heart transplant.

  Artist Statement
I
am primarily a landscape painter using oil paints on linen boards or canvases. I like to take a scenic and exaggerate its color while suggesting the subject matter with varied paint strokes. Capturing nature as a colorful and true place, tells a fun and innocent story.
